The Power of Pigs to Reduce Food Waste

The Power of Pigs to Reduce Food Waste

Jun 23, 2022 | News and Updates

Pigs love slop! They are nature’s ultimate recycling agents. What is considered inedible by most other animals is often a tasty meal for pigs. After following some safety steps, this superpower of theirs can be used to reduce the amount of food that ends up as waste on land fields.

On average per week, Daniel’s Table gives away 900lbs of food waste to feed the pigs of a local small family farm in Holliston, MA (Kampersal’s Farm). Next to reducing food waste, it can have several other benefits. It allows farmers to spend less buying animal feed, use less land for livestock farming, reduce carbon emissions related to producing and transporting animal feed, and even slow the rate of deforestation caused by soy farming for use in animal feed.

Sustainability is one of the pillars at Daniel’s Table and we proudly work to diminish environmental impact through reducing waste, reuse and recycling.
