Framingham Food Programs

Our Goal is to Provide Our Community with Access to Healthy Food Services

We offer multiple healthy food channels to promote physical and emotional health community-wide. We provide our neighbors-in-need with a consistent supply of high-quality, healthy, and nutritionally sound food. We supply food relief and nutrition education through a weekly food market, community freezer locations, and education. Learn more about our food programs below.

Our focus is to provide our clients with a unique Farm to Bag experience. A variety of farm fresh veggies and high quality protein choices are offered at the market, in addition to pantry staples.

We strive to provide our guests with complete meals that would satisfy the guidelines offered through the USDA MyPlate standards. We also added an additional category – healthy snack foods. So often children are going to school with no snack for snack time. Consequently, they struggle to focus. It’s hard to learn if you are hungry. We encourage our guests to look for these labels as they shop in our client choice market.

We are continuously searching for new farms and suppliers to join us in our effort to “Raise the Bar” in creating healthy food security. In addition to the food shopping, there is an educational component offered through a food demonstration. What may be a foreign fruit, vegetable or protein to a client can quickly change once they are shown ways to prepare them. The “Kid’s Corner” of the market offers food based crafts and games. It’s designed to teach our youngsters about nutrition in a fun way! To have a healthy and vibrant community, you need to have healthy residents.

This initiative allows us to partner with schools, community health centers, churches, senior centers, and social service agencies to have a presence in several places at once and provide instant access to food, facilitated by people who know and care for the people in need.

Daniel’s Table currently maintains 23 freezers throughout the city of Framingham, located in the public schools, the YMCA and social service provider offices. These freezers are stocked and maintained by Daniel’s Table staff with freshly prepared frozen meals. Using these freezers our neighbors do not have to travel outside of their local neighborhoods to access meals. We source our food through farm shares, private donations, and community partnerships with several organizations. Some of our Partners include Walden Local Meats, Boston Sword and Tuna, The Nordic Group, Lovin Spoonful, and the Greater Boston Food Bank. Our culinary staff and volunteers prepare nutritious meals with five core components (protein, grain, two vegetables, and a soup or pasta sauce) designed to feed a family of four for one mealtime. These meals are sealed, frozen, and transported to freezers in locations throughout the community where those in need can access them. The Daniel’s Table app tracks the meals picked up by our clients and alerts the program when we need to produce and deliver more meals. Daniel’s Table has the capacity to provide 10’s of thousands of meals per year in its current facility with collaboration from its current partners. To this end, we have begun to look for additional partner cities in MetroWest. Daniel’s Table recently surpassed 500,000 meals served to the residents of Framingham.

Over the next three years, Daniel’s Table has committed to planting 1000 fruit trees and bushes throughout Framingham.

Over the next three years, Daniel’s Table has committed to planting 1000 fruit trees and bushes throughout Framingham. Working with members of the Earth Day committee and Transition Framingham, we are identifying sites starting in South Framingham and will reach every area of Framingham over the life of the project. The BloomingCiti initiative will provide valuable benefits to our city. First, there will be an immediate impact on the beautification of the neighborhoods. Second, we will use this project as an educational tool to increase interest in a healthier environment and the cultivation of sustainable food sources. Third, this will fill a gap by becoming a Casual Food Source for the community providing thousands of pounds of fresh fruit where presently none exists.

This new and innovative program, Womb to 5, follows new families from pregnancy until the newborn is school age. Daniel’s Table provides a combination of nutritional and clinical support as well as case management to establish a strong foundation for healthy development. This program will ensure all children have an equal opportunity to start life on a level playing field and enter school without disadvantage.

Womb to 5 is Daniel’s Table’s first long term study assessing the effects of nutrition education and healthy food choices on young mothers and their newborn child. We take a holistic approach, involving the whole family. Participants are provided with frequent individualized nutrition counseling sessions with our on staff registered dietitian. Topics covered may include nursing, infant feeding, building a balanced plate, portion sizes, or the unique medical nutritional needs of the family, to name a few. Families also receive custom food and nutrition handouts and modules, fun and informative cooking classes, and overall dietary assistance. All families are provided access to a case manager for additional social services. We commit together, with the family, to provide these comprehensive services until their child enters school. Our goal is to assure that any child enrolled in our program will enter school healthy, nutritionally sound, and ready to learn.

“We are so happy to be a part of the Womb to 5 program. We are eating so much healthier. Our daughter had suffered with constipation for many months. Thanks to Rachel, the Wt5 dietician, whose advice has helped her overcome this issue! She is so attentive and truly cares about my family! The supplemental food from Daniel’s Table not only helps us eat healthfully, but it helps us out a lot financially as well! Only God can pay them back for all they’ve been doing for our family, this program is priceless! Thank you all at Daniel’s Table!“
