Darlene Colonna has a passion for volunteering in Food Pantries. It’s been 30 years since she started. She got her kids and grandkids involved also. She first learned about Daniel’s Table when Co-Founder David Blais came to her church to explain the mission of Daniel’s Table serving the most vulnerable in Framingham. That was 8 years ago. Since then, she has donated, organized several food drives and volunteered at Daniel’s Table. She really enjoys the duty.
Last Summer, she went to a farmer’s market and saw someone using a tote bag made of feed bags. She thought “I can sew one like that!”. She’s been sewing jean tote bags for 20 years as a form of recycling jeans. She loves any opportunity to recycle, repurpose and reuse.
She doesn’t have any pets, but since lots of us do, she gets feed bags from her neighbors, son, and pastor. The first bags she produced, she gifted to her neighbors. After that she started donating to non-profit organizations, among them Daniel’s Table. To date she had made over 100 tote bags out of feed bags. Our clients and volunteers loved the idea and the designs. From her last delivery our favorite was the bag with the calf. Thanks so much Darlene for your willingness to do so much for our community!
