Daniel’s Table Donates over 100 Books to Harmony Grove Elementary in Framingham
International Children’s Book Day is on April 2, 2022. Founded in 1967, the day is observed on or around Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday. This author is best remembered for his fairy tales. To celebrate this day, Daniel’s Table has procured over 100 books from 3 different contemporary native Brazilian authors. The donated books are written in Portuguese, which is the predominant language spoken at Harmony Grove. In celebration of the exciting donation, Community leaders will read aloud to classrooms during school on Friday, April 1, 2022.
Like many schools in Framingham, there is a large population where English is the second language spoken in many homes. The integration of books written in a student’s native language is hoped to foster a love of reading at an early age. It also empowers parents who do not speak English to read to their children on a regular basis.

Principal Juliana Kessler Marcos of Harmony Grove was excited to learn of this donation to the school and is pleased to host a read-a-loud for the children. The school was in dire need of books written in Portuguese.
Daniel’s Table Co-Founder, David Blais is also donating copies of his book entitled “Grandmas Love to Read”. His passion for teaching children the joy of reading is contagious. Right now, David is donating a portion of the sale of his book to the Ukrainian illustrator Elena Kochetova.
